In the National forestry owners are 845 farmers around the Iceland. Forestry farmers plant trees ca 5 million
annually, but planting is regulated by the law on utilitarian forestry from 2006.

Main
National forest owners (LSE) operate with the interest of forestry farmers and forest owners who work
with commercial forestry in mind.

The organization promote know-how and professional standards in forestry in Iceland. LSE collects,
processes and distributes information on professional forestry issues.

LSE promotes land use on the basis of sustainable development. In the light of changes in land use
opportunities appear in the form of environmental reforms. The positive environmental impact of forestry
involved in binding of carbon dioxide, leading recovery of better land use and greater diversity in the
biosphere is clear.

Vision
LSE holds a leadership role in its field and is an active participant in government policy in the field of
forestry and land use in Iceland. LSE provides for education in the field, on its own and in cooperation with
other parties and are an important link in the chain which is the sustainable utilization of land in Iceland.

Collaboration
LSE´s aim is to become a powerful organization consisting of all forest owners in Iceland trough regional
associations and individuals who grow their own forest commercially.

LSE´s aim is that the organization’s finances will be solid and based on the following foundations: 1)
projects carried out for the government, 2) share of funds and annual fees and 3) own fundraising.

Knowledge
LSE will focus on marketed commercial forests, which in the future can be a supply of wood, used for
further cost-effective processing.

LSE will promote extensive growth of shelterbelts, soil reclamation forestry and a follow up evaluation of
results and research and development.

LSE stresses the importance of considerable research and knowledge based research at the institute of
forestry. LSE promotes education in the field on university level and in technical collages.
